Three Step Plan for Discipleship
Happy 2020 Parents and Teachers!
It is the beginning of another great year here at Trinity! Remember that our Theme this year comes straight from our New Family Ministries Website. Our theme and our goal are the same; we choose to “go and make disciples” knowing that Christ is always with us. And how do we do that?
Step 1: Get to know Jesus- if we want to introduce our Friends to Jesus then we need to know him ourselves!
Step 2: Learn how to share the Gospel in contextually appropriate ways.
Step 3: Invite people into Christian Community.
We can also look at those steps as concentric circles
Step 1: Work on your relationship with God. (Building up Self)
Step 2: Talk about God with your family and those living in close contact to your home. (Building up Family)
Step 3: Focus on talking to friends about the benefits of Christian Community. (Building up Community)
From now on, I am going to try to organize these emails in that step progression rather than by date. (The calendar will remain if that is still easier for you.) So What step are you and your family on? Let’s see if we can get everyone from step 1 (or pick a lower number, if that is where you are) to step three. Let’s Build up this Community of Christ that Worships at Trinity.
Step 1 Activities: (Building up Self)
Sunday School- DIGG church this Sunday- we are going to be talking about gratitude and the things we are thankful for after the holiday season.
Up-coming Lenten Program- Fr. Taylor has been working on some ideas for the Lenten Program this year. I think it is going to be a great opportunity to learn about and work on some of the spiritual practices that might help you draw closer to God.
Step 2 Activities: (Building up Family)
Mission Trip Meeting: Sunday January 19 in the youth room we are going to meet to discuss our Summer Trip to Soulfest. Remember this is a family included event! Soulfest is held at Gunstock Resort in Gunstock, NH. There are campground type activities available, there is also a ropes course on site, a pond for swimming and boating, as well as Soulfest vendors set up all round the base of the slopes.
Step 3 Activities: (Building up Community)
Youth Group: This Sunday from 6:30-8:30 pm we are meeting at the St. Mary’s Church Gym for a multi Youth Group Dodge Ball Tournament. This is an opportunity for our kids to meet many of the other students from surrounding towns that also go to church. I met with all the youth leaders on Wednesday where we nailed down final plans. I would love to see as many of our kids as possible show up for this event because I want you all to know that, even though our group may be small, there are a lot of other kids who are Christian and you might not realize. As always, I am looking for volunteers to help. Drop off will be at St. Mary’s Church. Please use the parking lot between the church building and the school building. The larger parking lot next to the school will be in use for their Junior High CCD class and if we part there, we might cause issues for them. So please do not park next to the school. Only drop off between the church and the school buildings were the new connector is located.
Emerging/ Young Adult group- We are forming a new group for those in the emerging/ Young Adult life stages. This is for anyone age 18 to 35. Our First meeting is January 15th at 6:30pm at Manda’s house. Please bring your worst or weirdest gift as part of an ice breaker/ gift exchange. It should be wrapped but if you have already put all your stuff away, I have all the fixings for a last-minute wrapping job. I will provide the snacks. Please text me for my address and to let me know you are coming. 860-836-6129.
See you Sunday!
