New Event Added!

Happy Wednesday Parents and Teachers!

This year we are focusing on our three-step discipleship plan.

Step 1: Work on your relationship with God. (Building up Self)

Step 2: Talk about God with your family and your chosen family. (Building up Family)

Step 3: Pray and be curious about how God is using you to build up Christian Community. (Building up Community)

From now on, I am going to try to organize these emails in that step progression rather than by date. (The calendar will remain if that is still easier for you.) So what step are you and your family on? Let’s see if we can get everyone from step 1 (or pick a lower number, if that is where you are) to step three. Let’s Build up this Community of Christ.

Step 1 Activities: (Building up Self)

Sunday School- DIGG Church this Sunday!

Up-coming Lenten Program- Fr. Taylor has been working on some ideas for the Lenten Program this year. I think it is going to be a great opportunity to learn about and work on some of the spiritual practices that might help you draw closer to God. The Lenten Program begins Friday, February 21st. If that is not a good time for your family there will also be Saturday morning options, but I don’t have those dates yet.

Update on Confirmation- We had originally scheduled for Confirmation classes to begin in March with a Service date of Saturday May 2, 2020. However, the Emmaus weekend has been scheduled for that same weekend at St. Peter's Church in South Windsor. Knowing that most of our youth would rather participate in an Emmaus weekend, as well as their youth leader, Fr. Taylor and I are going to be working with the ECCT Commons to see if there is something else we can do to make this work. Remember that the service of Confirmation is also when adults are received into the Church Membership so, this affects more than our Youth. Thank you for your patience as we try to nail down a number of moving parts.

Step 2 Activities: (Building up Family)

Mission Trip: Soulfest! August 5-9, 2020 Remember this is a family included event! Soulfest is held at Gunstock Resort in Gunstock, NH. There are campground type activities available, there is also a ropes course on site, a pond for swimming and boating, as well as Soulfest vendors set up all round the base of the slopes. Right now, I am looking to find out how many families are going to be joining us. We have room for 20 people between two sites, there might still be open sites near by if you want your own. I would also like to open this trip up to other youth groups, so I am going to ask that all families who want to attend register by February 23rd.

John Rosemond will be speaking at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church-St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury brings to the community nationally known author, syndicated columnist, and family psychologist John Rosemond on February 22 and 23, 2020. Rosemond is known for his sound advice and relaxed style and is one of America’s busiest and most popular public speakers.

Rosemond will be speaking on “Parenting with Love and Leadership” on February 22 from 7-8:30pm and “Parenting the Strong-Willed Child: Obedience Made Easy” on February 23 from 1-2:30pm at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Rd, West Simsbury.

“Parenting with Love and Leadership” is a humorous, yet thought-provoking seminar, where Rosemond describes the contemporary parenting conundrum in clear, compelling terms and then describes a practical, tested solution using what children need adults to provide to them: Love and Leadership.

In “Parenting the Strong-Willed Child: Obedience Made Easy,” Rosemond outlines a virtually fail-safe formula for successful discipline of not only the child who is strong-willed, but any child.

Step 3 Activities: (Building up Community)

Camp ROCKY RAILWAY- Registration for Camp ROCKY RAILWAY has begun, and we have our first participants already! Camp is a great way to meet new people both within our church and from outside. Our goal this year is to bring in new families from the village and beyond. So, parents, let your friends know and encourage them to register their kids. We are always looking for more volunteers from decorating all the way through the actual week of Camp so please check out our Camp ROCKY RAILWAY registration site and let us know how you can help. We NEED your involvement.

Emerging/ Young Adult group- Our next meeting is February 19th from 6:30-8:30 pm. We are going to have a valentine’s day themed event with Cookie decorating and handing out Valentine’s day cards. If you are coming, bring a decorated tissue or shoe box for all your valentine’s loot!

See you Sunday!
